In a corner of the Sienese countryside, in the midst of Val d'Asso, Val di Chiana and Val d'Orcia, near the medieval village of Castelmuzio, lies the hotel complex of Moscadella.


The main building is an ancient farmhouse dating back to the 16th century already then named "Moscadella" which has reappeared after an extensive restoration, as a beautiful and charming hotel. Close to the hotel complex is located the famous abbey of Sant'Anna in Camprena where location shots of "The English Patient" were filmed


The structure offers to guests 6 double / twin rooms, 5 suites located in the main building and 2 self catering apartments in the independent unit. The restaurant is set in the former stables. Here guests can enjoy excellent dishes based on traditional Tuscan recipes. In the ancient cellars is the Buonaventura Wine bar where one can taste a wide selection of the best local wines.

For hotel clients who arrive by plane or train a mini-bus transfer service to/from the airports of Rome, Florence and Pisa and the railway stations of Chiusi, Siena and Arezzo is provided.

THE HISTORY
The building, originally belonging to the Piccolomini family, was built at the end of the sixteenth century.
In 1820 according to the Leopoldine land register it was registered in the section N of Montisi in the township of Trequanda, foglio 13, plot 389 with a surface of 960 square ells, pertaining to Martinozzi Pietro Leopoldo di Bonaventura".
Apollonia Generali, who was born in Castelmuzio in 1648 and died in 1680, better known as Suor Rosa Mari Generali, spent her adolescence there. Drawn by her vocation she abandoned her residence to retire in the Monastery of all Saints in Castelmuzio.
When in 1584 the neighboring church of the Madonna of the Rose caved in, the bell which had been in the belfry was taken to the roof of the Moscadella (where it still is) and for a while the building was occupied by friars.
